Stones and Birds
Birds believe
They call the day forward
A first bird
begins conversation
And wakes the whole neighborhood up
Chicken, dove, sparrow
A clamorous competition
Over who has caused the
Sun to rise
Busy about their business they fly away
Until evening comes
And they gather tell stories
Until the last good night is given
Earth formed
Stones
Regard all in silence
Only speaking
Through water and wind
Warmed by sun
Stones radiate
through the night or
Frozen they are
Stone cold to the heart
Gravity binds
Stones tight
unto itself
while birds take
flight and for a time
are free from gravity
Birds and stones
Stones and birds
Earth and sky
Sky and earth ...
